Essential Reading for 3rd CPP Students

Dear 3rd CPP Students,

Want to know more, much more about the modern history of the Middle East and how it was shaped? Read The Great War for Civilisation by Robert Fisk. Absolutely essential for a nuanced and objective understanding of the region. It's a hefty 1368 pages, but Fisk writes beautifully and you have all summer!

Last Day at IC

Thank you for making my last day teaching at IC so memorable. The outpouring of cards, letters, flowers, cakes, gifts, and hugs was heart-warming! So much sincerity!

Dear Students...

I've taught nearly 600 students during my 6 years in Beirut. Some of you have a serious interest in history. Some of you want to understand how cultures of the world are connected. And how it all relates to your lives. Some of you are passionate about mythology, literature, art or music.

Wherever your interests lead you as you continue your studies, I hope you always strive to understand your shared human experience. Not necessarily in your own culture, language or religion. But in storytelling, mythology, art and music. And compassion. Always compassion.

See beyond political borders, never let yourself get too comfortable, travel when you have the opportunity, meet new people, avoid conformity (but always respect your elders), and read the classics (there is wisdom in the past). You will develop perspective.

You are always welcome here to connect, to share, and inquire. I look forward to hearing from you.
